What is EURAXESS?
EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion is a unique pan-European initiative delivering information and support services to professional researchers. Backed by the European Union and its Member States, it supports researcher mobility and career development, while enhancing scientific collaboration between Europe and the world.

 

EQUAL-IST AND EURAXESS: Establishing synergies

Throughout the duration of the project, EURAXESS and EQUAL-IST had an excellent and active collaboration along with joint activities. With a strong network around Europe and beyond, EURAXESS has supported our activities and has spread the message to the broadest possible audience of external stakeholders around Europe. The ground-breaking Idea Crowdsourcing Platform, two joint webinars, the C&C principles of the EQUAL-IST GEPs and the Final conference, are some of our common activities that have been communicated, spreading both the EQUAL-IST and the EURAXESS messages, to professors, researchers, administrative staff, and students of a respective research institutions but also to external stakeholders around Europe and beyond. EURAXXESS supports to the EQUAL- IST Final Conference: Euraxess has invited all its members to participate in the EQUAL-IST Final Conference: Gender Equality Policies in Research Institutions: Promoting transformative and sustainable changes.

EQUAL-IST Gender Equality Plans endorse significant principles: The research institutions participating in the EQUAL-IST project (“Gender Equality Plans for Information Sciences and Technology Research Institutions”) considered the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter & Code) during the design of their Gender Equality Plans (GEPs).

EURAXESS and EQUAL-IST – Two (2) joint webinars

The First EQUAL-IST Webinar was organised to introduce the EURAXESS initiative and network to the EQUAL-IST project partners, as well as to discuss the areas for collaboration between EURAXESS and EQUAL-IST.
The Webinar’s objective:

To introduce the EURAXESS initiative and network to the EQUAL-IST project partners, to discuss the areas for collaboration between EURAXESS and EQUAL-IST, and to stimulate the endorsement of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter & Code) by the Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) forming the EQUAL-IST project consortium.

The 2nd Webinar on Establishing Synergies between the EQUAL-IST project and the EURAXESS initiative and network took place on February 28th, 2019. The webinar was focused on the promotion of gender equality within the EURAXESS initiative and the EQUAL-IST project. The webinar was targeted at EURAXESS members and managers, as well as the members of the EQUAL-IST project consortium.
The webinar’s objective was twofold:

First, the webinar participants gained insights into the promotion and support of gender equality within the EURAXESS TOP III and EURAXESS TOP IV projects. Here Brigitte Ernst (University of Liège, Research and Development Department, Belgium; EURAXESS Services and HRS4R) presented the initiatives promoting gender equality done within the EURAXESS TOP III project. Afterwards, Dimitrios Sanopoulos (National Coordinator of the Greek EURAXESS Service Network) provided an overview of the tasks foreseen within the EURAXESS TOP IV project. Second, the six European research institutions participating in the EQUAL-IST project shared their experiences in introducing structural changes, as well as sustaining those changes, by implementing the Charter & Code principles that support gender equality and presented first-hand examples of implemented activities.

Publication of Gender Equality Reports under the EURAXESS TOP III

Relevant Reports under the EURAXESS TOP III: Making European research careers more attractive by developing new services in the Euraxess network
Gender and Diversity Management Guide-Presentation of 56 tools about Gender & Diversity in Research relevant for Euraxess The aim of this Guide is to inform the staff of research institutions about the gender issue, and to make them aware that they can and should contribute to change the way the academic world is running now, for the benefit of the research community and the society at large. This Guide ambitions to help research centres and university staff to find the tools they need, appropriate to their professional context, at the moment when they need them.

Researcher’s environment-The Diversity challenge-Synthesis of 4 focus groups: This report summarises the outcomes of the four focus groups organised within the activities of Work Package 4 of the EURAXESS TOP III project (in Belgium, Romania, Slovaquia, Italy). Gender, in particular, is addressed as one dimension of diversity. In order to find out more about how EURAXESS Centres in different European regions reflect on the integration of gender equality and diversity principles into their mission, but also to raise awareness about the issue among them, four regional focus groups have been organised and their outcomes compared. This report is an attempt to synthesise the findings of the four focus groups.

Close collaboration to endorse the European Charter & Code for Researchers by the EQUAL-IST project partners. The EQUAL-IST project partners explored the opportunities to endorse the EURAXESS European Charter & Code for Researchers to add credibility to the tailored Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) implemented within the EQUAL-IST project. The design of GEPs, in turn, was informed by the gender non-discrimination and work-life balance measures included in the Charter & Code. Moreover, the questions related to gender equality from the EURAXESS HRS4R self-assessment survey (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) were included in the gender auditing methodology developed within the EQUAL-IST project. The methodology was followed by all EQUAL-IST project partners for assessing the internal state of the art in terms of gender equality policies.
